  1. Going Down

From the album The Quality of Light

I owe the inspiration to a great guitar player, who I'd met the day before I wrote it. He came to rehearse, and announced that he couldn't add anything to my songs. I realized that I wasn't quite organized enough, resulting in a brief grieving process, which was a window of opportunity to write. I think it's one of the strongest, therefore is the first track. It's one of those songs when the tears flow instantly when I first sit down to write. The song is about the possibility of a better world existing underground. You will hear some overtone singing in the end outro (2 pitches from one voice, meaning 2 tracks of vocals with a total of 4 pitches).

Lyrics

Standing on the precipice
below no safety net
I stare across a vast expanse
as others place their bet
Ohhh
I've tried to read between the bars and I'm
pacing to and fro
same old twists at every turn
There's nowhere left to go, so I'm

Going down
I'm Going down
take a look at what's underground
will there be resistance there
just more shit that I cannot bear

Have they built some city
where I can be at peace
and all the kindred folks I know
will finally be released
Ohhh
will we sing and dance and play
with no harm from above
in the warmth of mother's arms
basking in her love, well I'm

Going down
I'm going down
take a look at what's underground
will there be resistance there
just more shit that I cannot bear
well I'm going down
I'm going down
to learn what's underground
will I find a new home there
where I can finally breathe the air
Going down
I'm going down
should I start living underground
might just find a new home there
hope for weary soul repair
I'm gonna have a new home there
hope for weary soul repair
